Introduction to MIS
Author: Edison Yang

Preface: What is the MIS (Management Information System)?

MIS is based on “Database Management System (DBMS)”. It possesses the high-level UI (User Interface) information system. MIS is like a file-based system (similar to the “window’s explorer” on your PC). The most important characteristic of it is that it has the largest “database” for operating each system. There are so many different Users in each system handling different works. All of the file is connect with many different user. For example, the manager needs to examine and check the order before the Purchase Dep. places the order with the vender: all the information mentioned above must be the same, and as they are in the database.
If each company builds different system for each user, it might double the efforts while getting less result. We need to manage the database, and let the users approach the same information in different forms/files.

Development

According to the descriptions in the preface, we need to enhance our competitiveness with other different company in this era. We should create a management information system which all the staff could easily handle. That’s why the PSI professional team has started to build and develop the management information system for our PSI only.
The PSI Management Information System includes: sales order management (under construction), information system (under construction), auto production schedule (under construction), shortage management system (under construction), order information system, and the QA system, production, repair and office automation.
Although the Management Information System is still under construction, the PSI IT team will keep working on this MIS and each department will have their own system in 2014, which will enhance the competitiveness
