The proper conformal coating of PCBA needs to go through a standard SOP procedure, so it gets protection with a proper coating. This is based on the standard requirement on demand by our customers. So the users can have more stable electronic products. Currently there are four different methods of PCBA, including dip-coating, brush coating, robotic-spread coating, and auto-coating. PSI has considerable experience on coating process, and we choose the auto-coating as our main service. We make each parts under the protection as a standard coating process.

The auto-coating is operated through a program to do the process of spreading work for main boards. We will get a piece of PCBA sample for the trial before we apply it to the main production. And each program will locate all the parts and soldered-spots to apply with special coating glue, as well as to prevent the main board which shall not apply with glue for saving more cost of the labor work.

The main board is fixed with the same position to allow the auto-coating machine to apply the glues more accurately by carriers. Most importantly, we make the carrier fixed the main board into the proper position, and how we make a carrier is that we get the shape of its approximate size from its Gerber file. We would also analyze the shape and drill a hole for the edge of main board to fix the position by Pins. We will put the pins around the edge of carrier to fix them into proper position before proceeding the auto-coating process, and then the completed work of auto-coating would processing much more smoothly.

After the auto-spreading work of waterproof glue on the PCBA, we will check first if the glue has been applied properly through visual inspection. And we must make the glue dry by the process of roasting work. The PCBA has both sides, we have to make sure those applied with the glue on one side are dried under the roasting process. Then we will turn to another side for conformal coating again. After repeated inspection, we will put PCBA into roasting process as the final work.

After the water-proof coating process, we will inspect the PCBA after the roasting process to ensure the surface is completely dry. Then we proceed the thickness measurement, which we will check the PCBA to make sure if there is missing part under black lamp as the final complete inspection work. Then we will ship them.

The traditional ways of conformal coating (Dip-coating, brush coating, robotic-spread coating), require long time and heavy labor work for the whole process of coating. As for the auto-coating of glue spreading, it just needs a standard procedure. Via programming by sample of PCBA -> Coating carrier to fixed the position-> Roasting process to make coating glue dried ->Visual inspection as a whole final process. We can set up all the coating standard procedure for once and use it repeatedly later. PSI makes products of good quality on client's demands.
