After the Industrial Revolution, the activities of Human were changed from family and community group to industry and commerce group. In the past several hundred years, conditions of life also changed due to the progress of communication media and speediness of information flow. The way for people to get a better life also changed from hard labor to technical thinking. Management topology has turned from hierarchy to transverse. Leadership changed from despotism to democracy. Creating personal value in the society is a key issue of current generation. I will explain the topic from 3 perspectives as follows:
Technology is a basic factor for independence of every living being. No matter people or animals, they should have some skills to grasp foods for living. The skills to gather foods directly were the only chance for living for the ancient people. In current world it is more complex. People have many different technologies to survive, such as science and engineering technology, industrial and business operation technology, medical and pharmaceutical sciences… People try their best to learn knowledge while they are students. The knowledge is the basis for future life. Whenever people start to work, they should keep learning, because the improvement of one’s technical ability will also make one’s material life and spiritual life better.
People with different personality make this world so diverse and colorful. Some people devote their time in advancing technical abilities, while others invest time in building interpersonal relationships. Therefore, there are two channels of advancement within an organization: technical and managing parts. Technology is a continuation of Academia, focusing on independent thinking and operation. Management, on the other hand, focuses on interpersonal interaction. We use systematic supervision, hearts and senses to build the group’s coherence. Modesty becomes the basis of communication. All of which will contribute to making the system work smoothly and efficiently during the communication between different departments. There will be no grey area. Therefore, supervision, planning, coordination, and interaction will be easy and simple.
Management is the skill and the display of people management and task management. To coordinate different units under smooth operation, it is necessary to have a combination of selflessness, reasoning skill, and the ability. Moreover, one must have the ability to anticipate problems, plan for future, and make future operation of the department more smoothly. Lastly, put oneself in another’s shoe to facilitate collaboration between different departments. If one can have all of the above qualities, one can become an exceptional manager.
An exceptional manager is very much like a leader except that a leader bears the responsibility of the group’s success and failure, harmony and future direction. Technical ability and management ability are the basic requirements of a leader. A leader standing in front of his or her people must show his or her charisma and the confidence to handle anything. A leader must be forgiving, have positive thinking, and anticipate problems and be ready to tackle the problem actively.
Life is a learning process. Each person has his or her role to play. God gives us wisdom and tools for us to act our roles well. These roles could be leader, manager, technical service agent, or labor provider. Every role is indispensible and respectable nevertheless. What’s important is whether or not we work hard enough to know the wisdom, ability and responsibility God has bestowed on us, and give our all in the life’s course to finish our mission. Knowing ourselves and our ability, continue to build our knowledge and moral character and we will know our purpose in life.
