Introduction to test process

Author:Gary Huang

Test process could be split into three categories:
(1) PCBA test
(2) System test
(3) Burn-in process

Objective

To ensure the produced product for all PCBA or System stage will be fully operational without any function failure.

The following describes the test process in detail:
(A) Preparation for setting test tooling or fixture

Test tooling / fixture
This is to determine the complete functional status of a product, including PCBA & system test that requires fixture, relevant tools or equipment and software.

The equipments could be categorized by below product

Internet product
PC, LCD monitor, Loopback, cable, testing software, burn-in software/equipment, scanner, etc…

Computer product
PC, LCD monitor, O.S., Internet (Wireless/LAN), Loopback, microphone, earphone, testing software scanner, burn-in software/equipment, etc…

Control board product
PC, Monitor, hard drive, cable, burin-in software, testing software/system, scanner, etc…

(B) SOP (Standard operating procedure) Preparation
         SOP document
To pursuit all the test procedures to be standardize, consistence, therefore production should be executed according the SOP, when SOP has been processed accordingly, it’s will prevent the operators to execute from their wrong judgment and led to unstable quality. Testing SOP consists of standard test procedure, production notice, anomalous record and product resume.

(C) Introduction to test procedures

ESD protection
The operator will need to put on the ESD protection equipment, due to some of the electric component are highly sensitive to static electricity, the ESD protection helps the product to prevent from static during the production.

Distinguish from qualified product and defective product
The purpose of distinguish between the qualified products and defective product, is to prevent from confusion during the production.

Anomalies feedback during the production
The purpose is when the product is its test process, those faulty and abnormal phenomenon that were eliminated and feedback, which will rapidly improve the production method as well as maintain the quality and stability.

During the production
When the operator find out that the 3 pieces have been failed continuously from the test, head of operator will be informed, after the head has judged that the failures are not caused by men, the engineer will have the failure product analyzed and feedback.

Production complete
When the defective rate exceeds 6%, engineer will begin with the analysis and feedback.

(D) Burn-in process
The purpose is to ensure the products’ reliability and stability. The products will be tested within a certain degree Celsius (include normal or higher temperature) and certain amount of time, this is act to select the product that is unstable.
